Industry Applications
Food
The food industry uses dry ice for a variety of meat processing, shipping and other industry applications. One specific example is sausage makers who grind dry ice into the meat mixture during production to inhibit bacterial growth, preserve freshness, and maintain flavor. It’s also used during the shipping process. The dry ice keeps it frozen and by the time the product reaches its destination, the dry ice is sublimated back into a vapor leaving nothing behind.
Shipping
Anything you need to keep frozen during shipping, meat, food, other perishables, can be shipped with dry ice. Check with your provider to know the limits for how much dry ice you can ship, but it is usually around 5 to 10 pounds. Dry ice is a popular way to keep things frozen during shipping because it lasts well and there is no cleanup, once the dry ice sublimates, it’s gone.
Science and Research
The main use for dry ice in research facilities is to rapidly freeze samples and products for long term storage. Being able to quickly freeze samples is important for the reproducibility of experiments, it also doesn’t leave a watery mess, and keeps samples much colder than regular ice.

Greenhouse Yield Enhancement
CO2 plays a role in agriculture. When used in greenhouses, it contributes to increased crop yields. There are different strategies for disbursing CO2 in greenhouses, but each way can significantly shorten the growing period while enhancing the overall yield and quality of crops.
